DR. CHITRAA R CHANDRAN, MDS (Periodontia)
Her journey has been an inspiring one - having established her private practice from the living room of her home at Kodambakkam in 1984, she later moved her practice to a small bijou in Arya Gowda Road, West Mambalam in 1988, before moving down the road to the current establishment in 2000.
Her career as an educator began as a Reader in Ragas Dental College & Hospital, Chennai, in 1988; her passion for teaching propelled her growth, going on to become a Professor at the same institution, and later Vice-Principal at Thai Moogambigai Dental College & Hospital in 2004, before subsequently becoming the Principal and Head of the Department of Periodontics at Tagore Dental College & Hospital in 2007. She was awarded the Best Teacher Award in 2013 by then Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Mr. K. Rosaiah, for her excellent contributions towards nurturing the next generation of dentists.
While her formal education ended in 1988, she has kept herself abreast of current developments in the field by attending conferences and continuing dental education (CDE) programmes in Periodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Pedodontia, and Implantology. She also has organized many such CDE programmes herself, especially in Periodontics, and also finds herself being frequently invited to deliver talks, presentations, and keynote speeches across the city and country. Dr. Chitraa is also an active member of many associations such as the Indian Dental Association (IDA), the Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP), the Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR), and the Indiana Association of Forensic Odontology (ISFO).
A very socially conscious person, she spearheads many camps at schools, colleges and institutions across the state, sometimes in conjunctions with major NGOs such as the Lions Club also. Her latest venture was to conduct a camp aimed at spreading awareness in the ill-effects of tobacco use in rural areas in and around Yelagiri.
She is a specialist in various techniques and procedures, right from general dentistry, to extractions, treating trauma to teeth, gum problems, denture-based corrective or cosmetic services, orthodontic services, and conservative dentistry (such as with root-canal treatments), for all age groups, from children to the elderly. Known for her mild-mannered and affable personality, her motto is to serve with a smile, and to make dental treatment an overall satisfactory experience which is affordable to all patients.

She graduated from the Tamil Nadu Government Dental College & Hospital (then the Madras Dental College & Hospital) in 1984 and went on to continue onto her MDS in Periodontology from the same institution in 1988.
